It's not clear whether the Storage Node is able to read the label, but
can't find it in media index, or can it not read the label at all.  Can you
see from the logs whether it can read the label?  If not, could it be a
block size mismatch between the two servers?  From your server, try:

"nsrjb -ln -f rd=<snhostname>:<sndevname> -S <slot>" (to load a tape
into "remote" device without mounting)
"scanner -v rd=<snhostname>:<sndevname>"

and see if you get intelligible information.  If not, you'll have to look
into SCSI adapter registry settings on Storage Node, or limit block size on
server to same as Storage Node (can be done
with "NSR_DEV_BLOCK_SIZE_<devtype>" environment variable - see manual).
