For anyone that has used the Bacula Rescue CD will it let me just point to an image and do a *true* bare metal recovery?

I haven't used the bacula rescue CD so can't comment on that. I can recommend the tool Relax and Recover to create a Boot Image for bare metal recovery. It creates a small boot image with all the bacula tools on it. Works pretty well.
