Yes, virtualization would probably require their involvement.  But it's not too tough to virtualize an existing system.  It might mean a little down time though.  The benefits are tremendous-- from a resource and a recoverability standpoint.

Are they not interested in disaster recovery?  Or will it take a failure before that need arises?
