Hi all,

I posted this, and Craig replied me by email. I wanted to sent his mail and mine to the mailing list if someone else ever has the same problem and because I need some more information.

1st (me):
The subject probably sounds strange...
Let me explain:

I found out I accidentally deleted volumes with a full backup.
Or the files are not in the database anymore.

So now I wonder, how can I make bacula restore all the files that have changed since the full backup?
Is it possible that bacula restores without using the full backups, and takes the latest version of a file from the incrementals or differentials?

I know I can't get all files back with this, but at least some part.

Or does losing a full backup means that I have 140GB of volumes which have actually no use?

Please be clear as I am pretty new to bacula.
I hope someone can help.

Greetings and thanks in advance!

2nd (Craig):
presuming that your full backup is still on tape and that you also have
a backup of the catalog from that full backup, you can backup your
existing sql catalog, drop the catalog, restore the catalog from the
catalog that includes this full backup on tape at which point, you
should have no problem restoring from that backup.

3rd (me):

First of all, thanks for your reply!

I misconfigured bacula with auto-prune in 30 days (which was a stupid decision, I hadn't thought about the consequences :s). So I don't know where I can find the catalog which I need to restore the files from the full backup.

Is it possible for bacula to search in the volumes for such a backup of the catalog (I expect it to be backupped there) or is this catalog backup on another location?

PS:

- I am not using tapes. I use volumes on another raid disk. But this shouldn't make any difference as the storage is transparent.

- I get a messages that there is no full backup before the date of today, but that is probably because the database entrys are deleted by the auto-prune.

Please respond using this mailing list! Thanks

Greetings and thanks in advance!
