I do recall seeing something like that (adjust by one), somewhere.  So 
this would not be the first time someone has done this.

FWIW, this is a good demonstration why *not* directly accessing the tape 
changer is such A Good Idea(tm) and is, without doubt, The Right Thing 
To Do(tm).
