Will it be obvious if you mess up a volume in this way? For example, if
one sets the number in the catalog smaller than on the actual volume,
will it blow up noisily, or will it just fail to restore if you try to
do so? I've never guessed wrong so I'm not sure of the outcome. Seems to
me one could be bitten unexpectedly. At least with tapes too, you're
generally dealing with single or double digit numbers. :)
