Erm... no.

Single drive setups won't use 'update slots' at all. And autochangers 
often need the tapes in the slots to read the barcodes.

An autochanger setup without barcode capability needs to know which 
drive to use to scan the volumes. One with barcodes does not 
*technically* have to unload the tape (as the label of the volume, 
when loaded, should already be known to Bacula), but still unloads the 
tape so the barcode label can be read.

Anyway, a feature request to change that behaviour would probably be 
accepted, though I suspect it would get a very low priority.
