[Bacula-users] unable to write EOF
2008-06-10 14:37:32
Just when I thought I had seen every possible error, this comes along:
07-Jun 01:12 khyber-dir JobId 2118: Start Backup JobId 2118,
Job=gecko.2008-06-07_01.05.11
07-Jun 01:12 khyber-dir JobId 2118: Using Device "VXA3drive"
07-Jun 01:32 khyber-sd JobId 2118: Fatal error: Unable to write EOF.
ERR=dev.c:1669
ioctl MTWEOF error on "VXA3drive" (/dev/nst0). ERR=Input/output error.
07-Jun 01:33 khyber-sd JobId 2118: Error: Error writing final EOF to tape. This
Volume may not be readable.
dev.c:1669 ioctl MTWEOF error on "VXA3drive" (/dev/nst0). ERR=Input/output
error.
At the time this happened, /var/log/messages had this:
Jun 7 01:12:13 khyber kernel: target4:0:0: FAST-40 WIDE SCSI 80.0 MB/s ST (25
ns,
offset 32)
Jun 7 01:32:52 khyber kernel: st0: Sense Key : Medium Error [current]
Jun 7 01:32:52 khyber kernel: Info fld=0xf8e59c01
Jun 7 01:32:52 khyber kernel: st0: Add. Sense: Write append error
Jun 7 01:33:59 khyber kernel: st0: Sense Key : Medium Error [current]
Jun 7 01:33:59 khyber kernel: Info fld=0x1
Jun 7 01:33:59 khyber kernel: st0: Add. Sense: Write append error
After some SCSI errors two weeks ago, I swapped the SCSI card for a backup. Now
that
this new error happened I swapped the cable and terminator, so maybe if this is
a
SCSI problem then I will find that it is fixed. Or could it be something else?
Oh, and is the tape really unreadable? It had valid data from a previous
backup on
it before this job died with the error.
The drive is a VXA-320 inside an Exabyte Packetloader autochanger.
Thanks,
Mark
