Yes, NFS or iSCSI will work, but it is really a lot cheaper to just
throw some big drives in a linux box.
+1 to that.
 
 And in all the questions you've
asked I don't remember any yet about getting offsite copies of the
archive, which is usually the one hard thing with backuppc that you
need to plan from the start.

Using software RAID and mirroring 2 drives is a decent option, you can then add a 3rd USB drive and make it a 3 way mirror, removing the USB drive when complete and reducing back to a 2 way mirror.

Has anyone tried doing something larger? ie mirroring a pair of software RAID mirrors?
