As long as you know your schedule, you can do something like the script
I provided.  In my case, the backups start running at 7pm and the last
backup tends to kick off at about 3am.  So I could start watching the
queue at around 3:30am.  When there are no more running backups, it's
done for the day.

Of course, you do need to let the server run at other times so the pool
matching and cleanup routines can run outside of your backup window.
