'dump' just read the filesystem inode-by-inode and writes the contents to a file. It's a lot like 'dd' but it knows about the ext3 filesystem and won't copy empty blocks, and can be read using the 'restore' utility to pull out individual files.

So just mount your freenas and 'dump -a0f /mnt/freenas/backuppc-dump /dev/sda1' or whatever your disk device is.
