Amanda & tar on cygwin: Cannot stat
2007-10-24 14:48:51
Hi all,
I run the Amanda server on a Linux box, with one of the client machines
to be saved being a Windows 2003 server. On the latter, I use the
pre-built 2.5.2p1 client package. However, in the logs on the Win
machine, I find several error messages like:
sendsize[64044]: time 7.155: /bin/tar: [long, but complete (!), file
name]: Warning: Cannot stat: File name too long
Searching the cygwin archives, I found some remarks that cygwin uses an
"old" api which does not support the "long" file names of newer Win
versions. Is that really the case? Any idea how I can solve the
issue? Shortening the file names is *not* a solution, as I probably
cannot explain to the Win users why the system accepts their file
names, but the backup application doesn't...
Any help is really welcome!
Cheers, Albrecht.
