Well it is hard for me guessing the problem. For over a week I applied same
combinations to my many servers. But just this one continue to fail
strangely.

I am at the point to blame OS installation and reinstall it. But server is
in production line. So this is my last choice.

What OS/distro are you running, and on what architecture?  Is /var in the 
/ partition?

The usual cause for a wild estimate like that is a ginormous sparse file, 
such as /var/log/lastlog sometimes is on 64bit Linux systems.

But I thought the newer tars handled that properly...
