Strange report and a "failed" dump still taped
2006-06-27 11:29:47
A couple of lines from last nights report:
FAILURE AND STRANGE DUMP SUMMARY:
...
bigcow LastChanceC lev 0 FAILED [data timeout]
bigcow LastChanceC lev 0 STRANGE
"lastchance" is a PC being backed up via smbclient.
The "strange" message is nightly :( The FAILED message is not.
The description of the "STRANGE" dump was:
/-- bigcow LastChanceC lev 0 FAILED [data timeout]
sendbackup: start [bigcow:LastChanceC level 0]
sendbackup: info BACKUP=/usr/bin/smbclient
sendbackup: info RECOVER_CMD=/bin/gzip -dc |/usr/bin/smbclient -f... -
sendbackup: info COMPRESS_SUFFIX=.gz
sendbackup: info end
| Domain=[LASTCHANCE] OS=[Windows 5.1] Server=[Windows 2000 LAN Manager]
? NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED opening remote file \Documents and Settings\All
Users\Applica
tion Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson\user.dmp (\Documents and Settings\All
Users\Application D
ata\Microsoft\Dr Watson\)
\--------
Normally is it much longer. Also note, the lack of any final messages
from smbtar, like # of files and directories dumped, total bytes written,
and sendbackup size and end messages. Seems to fit the 'failed' comment.
What surprised me was this line from the summary:
DUMP SUMMARY:
DUMPER STATS TAPER STATS
HOSTNAME DISK L ORIG-MB OUT-MB COMP% MMM:SS KB/s MMM:SS KB/s
---------------------- ----------------------------------- --------------
...
bigcow LastChanceC 0 7736 5255 67.9 68:56 1301.1 5:21 16760.9
...
Despite giving the appearance of having failed, it was "taped".
I didn't think that failed dumps were taped, are they?
The size is reasonable for a complete dump.
