Restore WO Amanda, what am I doing wrong?

I'm trying to bootstrap replacing a failed Amanda machine.
I've built the new machine, and moslty got it working.
So, it's time to get the config files, and maybe indexes
off of the tapes from the faile machine.
I looked in the docs, and this should be simple. But:
Script started on Thu Mar 30 03:41:04 2006
# mt -f /dev/st1 rewind
# mt -f /dev/st1 fsf 1
# dd if=/dev/st1 bs=32k count=1

dd if=/dev/st1 bs=32k count=1root@ubuntu:~# [8Pmt -f /dev/st1 fsf 1 2
# mt -f /dev/st1 fsf 2root@ubuntu:~# dd if=/dev/st1 bs=32k count=1

]0;root@ubuntu: ~root@ubuntu:~#
Script done on Thu Mar 30 03:45:44 2006
As you can see, even when I move the tape foward, all I get is the tape header.
This is not what I _think_ I should be getting.
What am I doing wrong?
