My guess is that you did not rewind the tape (if not, do so, and try it
again), and that the tape was completely used; in that case, the last file on
the tape will show up as short.

Thanks for your reply!
I tested another amverify, this time doing a rewind first, and got the
same errors. Also, I am only backing up 10GB to a 40/80GB tape, so I
don't think that I am running out of space.
As another test, I created a new config using vtapes, to eliminate any
rewind and tape size problems. I backed up a small file system (/home
at 1.2GB) to a vtape on a volume with 24GB free. The dump seemed to run
fine, but again I got errors on amverify and amrecover.
The amrecover errors are the same, in that it complains that the files
aren't on the tape, yet it extracts them fine. The amverify errors are
different, but that may just be because of the vtape instead of a real
tape. See the output below.
Could this be a tar problem? I am using 1.15.1 per the Amanda Wiki. While the
Amanda docs say to use 1.13.25, I cannot get that version to compile under AIX
4.3.3, so I went with the 1.15.1 version.
Any other suggestions?
