Think of it as the compiled language equivalent of doing an "ls -l".
gtar thinks there is a file by that name from a previous directory scan
(no "-l") and now is going back to actually do the backup of that file.
Now, for some reason, it can't get the 'stat'istics for the file, most
likely because it was a temporary file and is now gone.
