I recently replaced my amanda server with a new machine but managed to move all indices and databases with it. I did go from FreeBSD to Linux but all changer scripts and tape devices are configured properly and working. The problem I'm having is that I'm getting

... FAILED [Estimate timeout from ...

On some machines it fails for all filesystems and for others only on one or two filesystems, while on others all filesystems are backed up. I've checked the sendsize report and see that the estimates are being generated well within my etimeout (1200) setting in amanda.conf.

I'm using the recommended version of tar:

$ /usr/bin/gtar --version
tar (GNU tar) 1.13.25

and the estimate process exits normally (the error in this case is with /usr ):

not sure about the "No such file or directory" errors although they happen for other filesystems where the estimate was successful and the filesystem was backed up.

Here's the amstatus report for this machine:

dhcp.hf.utexas.edu:/            1        1m finished (3:55:38)
dhcp.hf.utexas.edu:/dhcpd       1       22m finished (3:54:38)
dhcp.hf.utexas.edu:/usr 0 planner: [disk /usr, all estimate timed out]

Nothing is NFS mounted, amcheck doesn't report any problems.
