I did, and, indeed, it's better again.

I forgot to mention to the "ammt" command, similar
to the Unix "mt" command, but extended to understand virtual
devices:

   ammt -t file:/your/vtapes/vtape01 rewind

For Thomas, you certainly got all the irony? Paul essentially pointed you to `mt' for manipulating tapes, and to the `amrecover_do_fsf' and `amrecover_check_label' options that are described in amanda's man pages.
