RE: troubleshot getting Amanda to work on a remote host
2004-12-20 12:05:08
Thanks
much guys,
I am
one step ahead but I have not got it yet.
When I
ssh from Amanda server to the remote Amanda-client-machine and type 'who
-m'
I do
not get the host name in paranthesis!!!
Yet,
when I am doing so between the Amanda-server and other Amanda-client-machine I
do get the host name in paranthesis.
So, it
must be one of the configurations files in that
Amanda-client-machine.
I know
it is out of the scope regarding Amanda, but any help regarding how/what to add
change on Solaris 9 configuration so it would recognize which hostname
is connecting would be very very helpful.
Thanks
again,
Gil
Hi...
I suggest you logon
(telnet/ssh) from the Amanda-server to the Amanda-client-machine. Then you
do an 'who -m' and what you get in the paranthesis is what should go in your
.amandahosts (NB s at the end) file.
The access-rights in the
.amandahosts file has to be according to who the client thinks the
amanda-server is.
Hope that
helps...
Regards,

Frank, thanks much for your help but,
I tried to resolve the hostname in the .amandahost file both in the server
and client machines. I even wrote the IP address in both .amandahosts client
and server but it did not work.
Any other suggestions how to troubleshot it?
I have two ideas: can it be a firewall issue?
Or since those machines are not directly connected there are a few host
between which the Amanda client does not recognize?
Thanks again,
Gil

Hi,
I have a local server and a remote client, both run Oracle 9.
When I tries to run amcheck from the server to the remote client I get the
following error message:
"ERROR: hostname: [addr 38.128.57.138: hostname lookup failed]"
Any ideas on how to troubleshot it. - Is it a network problem? yet, I can
ping, ftp, ssh to the remote machine. Or did I miss something when I
configure Amanda?
When the server connects to the client, the client tries to
resolve the connection source IP to see if it matches any of
the hostnames in your amandahosts file. Evidently your client
machine can't resolve 38.128.57.138 into a hostname, so the
connection is refused.

Many Thanks :),
