I'm beginning to investigate using external USB 2.0 / Firewire drives to do backups of some systems. The idea is that we could keep 2-3 spare PCs around, then if your computer is toast, we just ship it out for repairs, plug your external drive into one of the spare PCs, and rebuild the system from the external drive.
