thanks for the fast reply. My current settings are the following.

tpchanger "chg-iomega"  # the tape-changer glue script
tapedev "file:/mnt/iomega"      # the no-rewind tape device to be used
amrecover_changer "file:/mnt/iomega" # make amrecover use this tape changer

So [ "$tapedev" = "$amrecover_changer" ] - but it still doesn't work.

The whole issue looks strange to me. Why do I have to set amrecover_changer to 
"$tapedev" - and not to "$tpchanger", which would look natural to me ? Or is 
there a bug in the documentation ?
