Yes, turn off hardware compression. As described in the docs.

In short: the real Amanda can do it better than tape drives and
has more control over the tape length. Especially hardware compression
often makes files _larger_ than the original if fed already compressed
ones. Amanda avoids this ever and with some assistance from the
operator it even avoids unneccessary compression attempts.
