At start there was a patch to Samba (by Gregor Ibic) that changed the
samba-output that caused the AMANDA-error.

Then Amanda was patched so the Samba-patch was no longer necessary.

AMANDA works with vanilla Samba 3.x since 2003-10-30 as you can see from the
Changelog.

I have amanda-2.4.4p1-20031202 running fine with Samba 3.0.1rc2 here.

If you start using Samba there´s no reason to choose 2.x. Take
3.0.1rc2 or wait for 3.0.1, if you can.
