But you can find the finish time by looking at the mtime of the file
itself.

 s/fishish/finish/  :-)

I see I left the most important conclusion out.
Verify on a successful run if amanda 2.4.2p2 generates a finish
datestamp at the end.
If yes, then it seems that somehow sendbackup died before on this run,
and we have a clue where to look for problems.
