Amandad is not started by a human.  The amanda server contacts the client
over the network and amandad is started by inetd (or xinetd depending
on which your system uses).

Make sure you have your inetd configuration setup according to the
installation instructions.

It is recommended that you NOT use localhost as a client.
Instead enter the systems actual network name.
