Hey Mozzi,

There seems to be an issue with Amanda and reverse DNS lookups - I had many when I wanted to setup backup clients across multiple subnets.

But in the end if you have your backup "client" having the ip/hostname of the backup "server" in it's /etc/hosts file you should be all set. Have you tried using the FQD of backup_server.domain.com.au in your hosts file on your client?

Cheers,
Gordon.

Hi all

On one of my hosts I run amanda for backups
when I run amcheck it tells me
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Amanda Tape Server Host Check
-----------------------------
Holding disk /var/amanda: 72958716 KB disk space available, using
68862716 KB
NOTE: skipping tape-writable test
Tape Test1-001 label ok
NOTE: info dir /usr/local/var/amanda/test/curinfo/<my host>: does not exist
NOTE: index dir /usr/local/var/amanda/test/index/<my host>: does not exist
Server check took 5.020 seconds

Amanda Backup Client Hosts Check
--------------------------------
ERROR: <my host>: [addr 192.168.2.215: hostname lookup failed]
Client check: 1 host checked in 0.028 seconds, 1 problem found
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The ip addy it gives back is wrong.[192.168.2.215] should be 192.168.2.208
I added the ip/hostname in my /etc/hosts file
I also double checked my dns forward and reverse lookups and all is well
there.

Any ideas ?
I am stumped

Mozzi
