Re: Problem with amanda clients hanging at start of backup

This issue was caused by a very active sendmail /var/spool/mqueue
directory interfering with "ufsdump". After changing the backup type
over to gnu-tar, the problem went away.

I have an intermittent problem with two Sun amanda clients where the
client machine mysteriously hangs at the precise time the amanda backups
start. This is happening on two entirely different Sun architectures,
with the following uname -a:
SunOS relay-2 5.8 Generic_108528-12 sun4u sparc SUNW,UltraSPARC-IIi-cEngine
SunOS service 5.8 Generic_108528-07 sun4u sparc SUNW,Ultra-5_10
The client machines will respond to pings, but the box needs to be power
cycled in order to be functional again when it happens. The amanda
client version on both boxes is the same, namely 2.4.2, and the server
is running 2.4.2p2. Unfortunately, I don't have client side debug
output, and the server side debug output is not useful:
amtrmidx.20020615032113.debug:service.wn.net /
amtrmidx.20020615032113.debug:service.wn.net /usr
amtrmidx.20020615032113.debug:service.wn.net /var
amtrmidx.20020615032113.debug:service.wn.net /opt
amtrmidx.20020615032113.debug:service.wn.net /var/mail
amtrmidx.20020615032113.debug:service.wn.net /export/home
amtrmidx.20020615032113.debug:service.wn.net /usr/local/apache/users
Any help you could provide would be great. Thanks!
