Hello again folks,

I'm moving forward (albeit slowly) with getting amanda going. I now need to determine that the hardware is happy. I will be running this under Slackware 8.1 with an Exabyte EZ-17 tape changer (7 tape capacity). I have installed mtx which seems to see everything fine (I know the system sees it properly). Now, when I run 'mtx -f /dev/sg0 inquiry' I get the following:

Product Type: Medium Changer
Vendor ID: 'EXABYTE '
Product ID: 'Exabyte EZ17 '
Revision: '1.06'
Attached Changer: No

'mtx -f /dev/sg1 inquiry' returns:

Product Type: Tape Drive
Vendor ID: 'EXABYTE '
Product ID: 'EXB-89008E00012F'
Revision: 'V41b'
Attached Changer: No

Obviously, everything seems to be kosher. My question is "should I be concerned with the message 'Attached Changer: No' returned in both instances?". Also, anyone's experiences with this particular device/OS (ie, linux) combination would be appreciated (I've read some of the mtx gotchas regardin this device). I'm confident I can get it all to work correctly but I'd like to know any gotchas to watch out for. (I've gone through the FOM and am, still, reading the Amanda chapter at Storagemountain.com). I'm assuming I'll most likely want to choose chg-multi or chg-mtx as my changer.

Still RTFMing
