Jay (or others)

As I'm not using a version of the dump program I may have the wrong impression.
Please adjust my thinking if so :)

Can amanda be configured so that dump users can use the amandates
file INSTEAD of dumpdates, thus leaving dumpdates available for
  dumps performed outside of amanda?

Is this configuration recommended for dump program users?

Thanks,
