We plan to do this, as well. However, not sure how fast 400GB will do
across a GIG-E (or slower) connection. That is the sum total of 5-server
databases "Used pages"

I actually use it to perform database backups in addition to my tape
based db backups. This allows me to begin recovery immediately when a
problem occurs, versus waiting several hours for our vaulting company to
return the offsite db backup from the vault facility. I have had no
issues with it.
Keep in mind that depending on the database size and number of TSM
servers involved that it could utilize a significant amount of disk/tape
resources.
Thank you,

I know of no issues, this actually works as designed.

been there, done that, even got a t-shirt (but that's completely
unrelated). I have no bad experiences to share.

actually, apart from possible limitations in the network department, I
think this is one of the better solutions. Set up two servers as virtual
volume servers for DR, and use just 2 or 3 tapes daily rather than one
or two per server. Until IBM allows us to store multiple DB backups on a
single volume, this is one of the best ways to make db backups when you
have more than just two or three servers.
