never.....the lifespan of a spinning is 10 years at best. tape is at least
30- and 1/2 of us will be retired by then and not really giving a shit!

Yep... I recently visited a customer who's planning to use dark-fibre link
to "Level-3" offsite storage vendor; primary pools stay local ('cuz
they're still paranoid about the whole prospect), but copy pools will go to
the offsite "vault", all disk-to-disk (in this case, using TSM
server-2-server virt. volumes for copy-pool data & DBbackups).
And, this is getting some play amongst customers wanting to transport the
disks offsite, as well --- abit riskier, considering what happens when you
drop a disk(?).

Just a thought... but 70 TB for $435,000 on disk sounds interesting. Just
get some small tape libraries for making offsite copy pools. Of course,
you
would be on the bleeding edge of tech maybe.
