And what would happen, then, if the second set were also destroyed in
shipping? The problem is one can never get to 100% reliability. Given
that, one needs to determine how much to spend to ensure a reasonable amount
of safety. I believe that one copy is adequate.
I have seen sites where two copy storage pools are in use. However, most
sites rely on a single copy storage pool. Where there are two, sometimes
one is actually kept onsite but not in the library. In this fashion, they
can recover from a primary pool media failure without having to visit the
offsite.
