Hi,

I am currently excluding directories/files from being included in my
backups. I have an area that contains daily database dumps. The db dumps
are created every morning at 1am. The customer service level agreement
calls for retaining the db dumps for eight days, so we have created an
archive management class that archives the /DBDumparea/.../* every morning
and manages that area without us having to modify our incremenatl management
class that is used more for disaster recovery of the node. So to accomplish
this, we exclude the /DBDumparea from incremenatls. To do this, I have put
the following lines in my client systems options file (dsm.sys).

*// ADSM_LOCAL_SERVER_STANZA
Servername SERVERNAME
TCPPort 1500
TCPServeraddress <hostanme>
Passwordaccess generate
SCHEDLOGRETENTION 5
inclexcl /usr/lpp/adsm/bin/inclexcl
*// End_ADSM_LOCAL_SERVER_STANZA

I also created a file in /usr/lpp/adsm/bin called inclexcl, the contents of
which looks like:

exclude /unix
exclude /tmp
exclude /.../core
exclude /.../.SpaceMan/.../*
exclude /DBDumparea/.../*

Also keep in mind that changes made to these files will require that the
processes reading these files will need to be restarted, ie., the sched
daemon, or in my case both the sched daemon & the archive management process
needed to be recycled when I make changes the the inclexcl file or the
dsm.sys.

Ciao,
James

Mark,
I have not yet got the inclexcl to work properly on aix or hp. I included
every iteration of exclude "this filespace" in my inclexcl and was still
backing up unwanted data.
My immediate work around (support's suggestion) is to put the desired
filespaces in the dsm.opt file. This works fine BUT I am still backing up
the files I wanted to exclude (core, dsmerror.log, dsmsched.log, etc...)
Any other suggestions? I went through my config with support and all seems
right.
Thanks

You want to code these statements in

/usr/lpp/adsm/bin/include.exclude. Then make sure you have coded

        inclexcl /usr/lpp/adsm/bin/include.exclude
in dsm.sys.
