Hello Tina,

I did specify the maxpr parameter....here's the relevant bits from the q stg
commands etc...

backup command: backup stg ssa_pool copy_pool1 maxpr=2

q stg ssa_pool f=d..
               Storage Pool Name: SSA_POOL
               Storage Pool Type: Primary
               Device Class Name: DISK
         Estimated Capacity (MB): 138,240.0
                        Pct Util: 39.1
                        Pct Migr: 39.1
                     Pct Logical: 100.0
                    High Mig Pct: 100
                     Low Mig Pct: 90
             Migration Processes: 2
               Next Storage Pool: 3590_POOL1
                       Collocate?:

q stg copy_pool1 f=d..
               Storage Pool Name: COPY_POOL1
               Storage Pool Type: Copy
               Device Class Name: 3590_DEVC

q devc 3590_devc f=d ....
             Device Class Name: 3590_DEVC
        Device Access Strategy: Sequential
            Storage Pool Count: 4
                   Device Type: 3590
                        Format: 3590C
         Est/Max Capacity (MB): 0.0
                   Mount Limit: DRIVES
              Mount Wait (min): 60
         Mount Retention (min): 60
                  Label Prefix: ADSM
                       Library: 3494_LIB1
adsm> q drive

Library Name Drive Name Device Type Device ON LINE

------------ ------------ ----------- ----------------
-------------------
-------------------
3494_LIB1 3590_DRV1 3590 /dev/rmt0 Yes
3494_LIB1 3590_DRV1 3590 /dev/rmt0 Yes

3494_LIB1 3590_DRV2 3590 /dev/rmt1 Yes

I am at a loss...I now understand why migration uses only 1 process (thanks
Dwight !).
But I don't understand why the "backup stg" with "maxpr=2" only uses one
process...

frustration reigns
Andrew.
