Armando,

try using "dsmc sel -subdir=yes /tmp/test/b/" instead of explicitly
giving the name of file1 to the sel command.  This will back up the
symbolic link as what it is.

The problem that you describe is actually a non-problem.  The way
ADSM has been designed is to interpret everything in the path that
has been given to a backup command as a directory, even if it is
actually a symbolic link.  This ensures that the files you backup
this way (such as your file1) will always be restorable, even if the
directory the link pointed to no longer exists on your machine.

Just as a side note:  If you use ADSM to backup your systems
(which is definitely a good idea) you will certainly not backup
each file individually but by filespaces, so symbolic links will
always be backed up and restored as symbolic links.
