Ok, if your system does a "smoke'n crash" and you get an empty system
you will have to get the base operating system with the root volume
group already in place in order to restore about any data.
Count on your makesysb to cover such base needs.
So I have heard there is a utility that will create a makesysb to a
flat file on dasd that ADSM can backup... then if your system pukes
you can restore that file on dasd (say on your adsm server) then do
a little hocus pocus and get a system to IPL from that... Another
individual here mentioned it to me and as soon as I get a breather
from these 12-20 hour days dealing with more pressing items I am going
to look into this and use it for all our RS/6000 machines. When I
find out more I'll pass it along.
later
Dwight

Hi Gang,
Pardon my newbie-ness.
My unix admin is distressed to learn that /dev is not backed up by adsm and
is interested in knowing when/if adsm development is planning on adding this
feature. I realize he can include /dev in his sys backups ...
Also, I thought I saw something about a VMS client somewhere in a note
from this server?
Appreciate your thoughts,
Dave.
