Hello all...

I'm am trying to get an idea if my backup times are abnormal or others are experiencing teh same times:

Scenerio:

Server: Windows 2003 Enterprise Quad Xeon etc etc...

TSM Server: 5.3.2.3

Client: 5.3.2.2

# of files: ~3million

total size: ~ 1/2TB (500GB)

Length of full backup: ~73 hours

Actual data transfer time: ~ 2.25 hours

network connection: 1Gig Fiber

This tells me that it took ~71 hours to process the files and ~2 hours to send them. Does this seem right?

Thanks in advance.

Well, this does seem a little out-of-whack...however, if your Windows server has a lot of small files, it can take a while to process....Windows is known to be a little slower than Unix in this regard.

Are we talking like 1000 files here, or maybe like tens of thousands of files?

Sounds like a "Document" managment system...

Your run time seem very slow. We have a server that does 2.6 million objects, 1 file system, about 450GB, backed up 1.68 GB, run time 1:13:06.

The node is a 2x1.8Ghz Xeon running agent 5.2.2.10 on Win2k with a 1Gb NIC.

If that is the only slow machine I would check the node's NIC first.
