windows 2000 client support

hi all -

I want to upgrade my 5.3 server to 5.5 as it sounds like things are working ok there...
but I have a bunch of windows 2000 boxes with client 5.3 on them.

does anyone have this setup?
typically it goes n +/- 1 for support -
but what I want to know is if anyone is running any 5.3 (or lower) clients to a 5.5 server.
- or -
does anyone run a higher client version (than 5.3) on their windows 2000 boxes?

any forseen issues with this?

We have a few Windows 2000 boxes here on client version 5.3.14 that work just fine with our 5.5 server. I was going to try upgrading one of the 2000 clients to 5.5 to see if it worked... I'll try to post back my results...

The EOS statement for TSM 5.3 was recently updated and support for Windows 2000 clients using the 5.3 client has been extended.

Select support for three operating systems will be added to TSM 5.4 in April 2008. Special 5.3.6 backup-archive clients and 5.3.6.3 storage agents will be supported on only these operating systems, for use with TSM 5.4 and 5.5 servers. Support ends 90 days after the vendor extended defect support ends for the operating system, as listed here:

* Windows 2000 - July 2010
* Solaris 8 - March 2009
* Linux x86 RHEL 3 - October 2010

Booty, tsm clients at ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/storage/tivoli-storage-management/ (see under maintenance (for x.x.x.0 versions) or patches (other versions)).

Latest 5.3 client version (for Windows) seems to be 5.3.5.6.

Cool, that's where I ended up finding them. I saw mention of version 5.3.6.3 for Win2K, but then realized that it's not supposed to be released until April... I had been searching for a 5.3.6.x version all over the FTP site with no luck.

I have installed TSM Client 5.4.0.2 on some Windows 2000 (SP4) servers, when i tried to upgrade them to TSM Client 5.4.2.0, it's failed. Then i try to upgrade to TSM Client 5.4.1.0, (trial at VMware, and it works)
Does TSM client 5.4.1.0 supported with Windows 2000?? And how about support from IBM with this 5.4.1.0 version?

I have dozens of WIN2000 boxes running the 5.3 (and even 5.1!) client to a 5.5 server.
We are upgrading 2 or 3 of them a week

I also have a few WIN2000 boxes running client 5.4.1.2 (though it's not technically supported!). The 5.4.1.2 installs were a mistake on the part of our Windows guy. In a release after 5.4.1.2, I believe Tivoli made 5.4+ uninstallable on WIN2000.

The 5.3 client will work just fine for you, but will impair your ability to get support from IBM.

No, the 5.4 or 5.5 TSM clients are not supported on Windows 2000.
The 5.3.6.0 (the 5.3.6.3 version is a stg agent not a TSM client) was released and is available here:
ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/storage/...maintenance/client/v5r4/Windows/Win2000/v536/

Notice that it is under the 5.4 directory. This means that this 5.3.6.0 client will be supported to a 5.4 or 5.5. TSM server until the date posted in the 5.3 EOS flash.

While the 5.4.x.x clients might install on Windows 2000, they are not supported.

1. Does BA Client 5.3.6 on W2K work with TSM Server 5.5 without problems?
2. Is it really supported to use this client in combination with TSM Server 5.5?

I have downloaded 5.3.6 client to install on windows 200 SP4 Professional (spanish version) but isntallation fails, appear an error 1324 (can't acces to folder command line backup and archive, contains an error characther)

What can I do?

solved, installing with english installer works
