Microsoft recommends that we use the following configuration for Active Directory installations on our Domain Controllers:

C: (RAID 1) - System Files Partition

D: (RAID 5) - Active Directory Partition

Problem:

As we are installing Active Directory in our production in the coming few weeks, we are testing TSM backing up AD. We have had conflicting information from IBM support as to if we should expect problems when Backing Up / Restoring our Active Directory on a second D: Partition.

In our test lab, when we have AD installed on C: (the same partition as the System Files) we can see the Object for 'Active Directory' and the flat files (C: Drive). But, when we have Active Directory on a second partition (as recommended above), TSM does not seem to see the Active Directory Object, but can still see the flat files that make up Active Directory. We have successfully restored from tape as both a Non-Authoritative and Authoritative restore, but not seeing the Objects concerns us.

Question:

- Can anyone confirm if TSM has issues with Active Directory being on a different partition other than C: (with the System Files)?

- Are the TSM version issues that we should consider?

- Are there any Links to articals confirming the backup compatibility (I have found little)?

Thanks for your help.
