Hello to all,

I have been rackin my brain trying to figure out what is wrong with getting this 2008 windows cluster to work! The clients are using TSM V6.1.3 to a TSM server V5.5.3
Here is the optfile from the default TSM client folder:

Here is the dsm.opt file from the clustered resource folder X:\home_01\sys\dsm.opt

when I call the dsmc application with -optfile=X:\home_01\sys\dsm.opt it starts fine. I then did a q option and saw that clusternode was set to yes. when I tried to backup a drive that is mounted as a folder the tsm returned an error saying the disk is not a clustered disk?

Node Name: XXXXXX
Session established with server XXXXXX: AIX-RS/6000

tsm> incr X:\home_01\h1_h\* -subdir=yes

Incremental backup of volume 'x:\home_01\h1_h\*'
ANS1228E Sending of object '\\dcmssfs02\x$\home_01\h1_h\*' failed
ANS1151E '\\dcmssfs02\x$\home_01\h1_h' is not a cluster disk.

I know its clustered and see it in windows explorer!

I tried just as a desparate idea was to rename the dsm.opt file in the default directory and discovered the tsm client would not start even though I called it with the
-optfile=X:\home_01\sys\dsm.opt ?

Does any one have any idea whats wrong here?

Best Regards,
Bob...

Add to your local dsm.opt file...
clusternode no
clusterdisksonly no

Add to your cluster dsm.opt
clusterdisksonly no

I fumbled around for a while with the same issue and that was my solution.

gyuzik,

Thank you for your help! your suggestion did work. I'm confused as to why I needed to set "clusterdisksonly no" in the clustered .opt file? It would seem backwards to me to specify no to that since the whole purpose of this clustered client is to backup the clustered disks?

Thanks Again!
Bob

Great! I'm glad I am not the only one completely confused by "clusterdisksonly no". The only thing I can think of is TSM is not properly recognizing the disks as cluster disks... but I really can't give you a clear answer.

Following is an excerpt from Tivoli Document

Scenario 4: Back up a node which manages the clustered drives within a cluster resource group, using volume mount points as cluster resources
In this scenario, it is assumed that the node is responsible for backing up a cluster resource group that has two drives, f: and f:\mnt. There are clustered drives which appear as volume mount points (IBM Tivoli SANergy, Windows 2003 server). Ensure that you define the incremental processing domain as only the volumes within a cluster resource group. If you have multiple cluster resource groups, assign a unique Tivoli Storage Manager node to manage each cluster resource group.
Options file:
CLUSTERNODE YES
CLUSTERDISKSONLY NO
DOMAIN f: f:\mnt
EXCLUDE f:\mnt\...\file.txt

My understanding is when
CLUSTERNODE YES
CLUSTERDISKSONLY YES (default)
the cluster disk map that TSM creates does not include the mount points that are presented as clustered disks ,

However
CLUSTERNODE YES
CLUSTERDISKSONLY NO
does not create a cluster disk map and hence lets to specify the mount points that are presented as clustered disks [ and other cluster disks ],probably since TSM cant create this list, am not sure.

But TSM does let you backup all clustered resource in different scenarios.

What if I have a cluster drive that consists of mounted volumes and folder.

e.g.
x:\Microsoft SQL server - a folder on cluster X drive
x:\Data_01 - a mounted volume on cluster X drive.
x:\Data_02 - a mounted volume on cluster X drive.
x:\Data_03 - a mounted volume on cluster X drive.

I want to backup only x:\Data_03\bks directory and exclude everything.

How should my dsm.opt look like? I seems to cannot get it to work. It back up everything.
