What Management Class is on that Volume???

Dear ADSMers



The other day we had a tape return from the vault accidentally. I was asked if I could tell when it should be recalled.

I thought that should be easy but then thought what if the files stored on the tape are not all in the default MC.



I guess my question is, can I query or is issue a SQL command to find on a volume the different management classes stored on it?

I can not answer to the SQL statement needed, but I would say that you can not necessarily predict when a copy tape will come back. It may have multiple classes on it and some of the objects in those classes may be active. Since the active objects are not going to expire from TSM's view of the world, TSM will not be able to answer the question. The tape may not need to be returned for days, weeks, or months, depending on when the active objects become inactive and then expire.

I would still like to get more reporting out of volumes than we are getting now.
