Looking recommendations, best practice or documentation to support either way. Can you put VTL emulating LTO-4 drives on the same HBA as physical LTO-4 drives without impacting performance? My thoughts are they should be on different HBAs being that VTL hardware is DISK.

VTL and Physical Tape On Same HBA?

Best practices are separate ports, I've never personally done both on the same port so no idea how it would actually behave.

You should always put disk (even if it's VTL disk) seperate from physical tape drives.
