Hi guys.

I am looking information about vmware, TSM server and storage agent.

Is it supported to install TSM server or Storage Agent on the VM???

Thanks in advance.

Martin

If you are running the client/server/stg-agent within a client VM, then there are no issues and the vm-client looks and acts like a normal server. If you are talking about running the client/server/stg-agent on the vm-host, then you have to shut down the vm-client machines in order to back them up. (vdk files?)

I mean the TSM stg-agent running within a client VM. I dont know why IBM doesnt support this solution?!

As Storage Agents need access to tape devices, if you run on VM, then you will not be able to VMotion that server because you can't gurantee that server will have access to tape drive.

Drop storage agent functionality and run straight TCP client inside the guest. Works great. If you've got something so big that it needs to go lan-free, it shouldn't be a VM.
