Hello,

We are using a Linux NFS server for our VMs. The linux server takes snapshots using LVM of the logical volumes containing the VMs. We then mount the snapshots and backup the contents to TSM. When we do this, the full size of the VM is backed up, rather than the used size. When we turn on compression, (dsm.sys option COMPRESsion = yes) then the free space is compressed, at the cost of ALOT of CPU cycles.

Is there an option we are missing? We would like to backup the VMDKs using our LVM snapshots.

Thanks for the advise. We do not have TSM-VE.

Thanks

Sam

What version of TSM client are you running on?

I have a post on this forum about 1 and 1/2 year ago describing a similar issue. This looks like a VM Ware issue more than a TSM issue from what I was told by IBM. But might have changed. You are not missing any option as I have spent literally months on this issue going back and forth with IBM 3rd level support and then with development.

Again, this might have changed since I haven't touched TSM backing up VM when I moved to the states.
