Hello

Tsm server: 7.1.3 windows
using deduplication and reclaimation.

today when i came in to work had alot of failures, out of no where. i see the volumes are saying full, but not really. Some volumes are pct util up to 18% and it says full..

do you know what can cause this?

Not enough info provided.
- the full volumes, how long have they been full?
- pct_utilized by itself doesn't mean much without pct reclaimable?
- is the sum of pct utilized and pct reclaimable 100%?
- if so, either reclamation failed or you need to run reclamation

the volumes started getting full sunday during backup time.

for example:

tsm: MS01ATSMP02>q vol \TSMINST1\TSMFILE03\File03

Volume Name Storage Device Estimated Pct Volume
Pool Name Class Name Capacity Util Status
------------------------ ----------- ---------- --------- ----- --------
C:\TSMINST1\TSMFILE03\F- DEDUPPOOL FILEDEV 3.6 T 25.5 Full
ILE03

You need to use Q VOL ... F+D to have details.
- the full volumes, how long have they been full?
Check the "Approx. Date Last Written"
- pct_utilized by itself doesn't mean much without pct reclaimable?
Check the "Pct. Reclaimable Space"
- is the sum of pct utilized and pct reclaimable 100%?
Add up "Pct. Reclaimable Space" + "Pct Util" and let me know if the result is 100%
- if so, either reclamation failed or you need to run reclamation
When is the last time reclamation ran? Did it finish with success or failure? If failure, are you addressing the problem?

From which storage pool are the FULL volumes - disk pool, online tape pool?

If from the disk pool and there are no scratch tapes available on the tape pool (look at he the available scratch tapes), migration cannot happen and thus a failure.

If the storage pool that is full is a devclass=file system, is node collocation enabled?

collocate=no

Can you describe your environment properly so we can reply appropriately?

Post:

1. is the storage pool getting full volumes a primary disk pool?
2. if this is happening on the disk pool, is next pool defined?
3. is expiration and reclamation running?
