When I initiate dsmc as root, it works fine, but, when I try it as a different user, it says the server name is not in the server options file.

I have checked and made sure the dsm.opt and dsm.sys files are correct. I haven't had this happen with other clients.

Running TSM server 5.2 on AIX.

Any help would be appreciated.

yes, i am a n00b

This sounds like a permission problem on the dsm.sys or dsm.opt file. I couldn't reproduce the exact same error but I definately broke it by changing the file access attribues of these two files. Check to make sure the user has read access to both dsm.sys and dsm.opt.

You need to check the permissions on the dsmc and dsmadmc files themselves. Also you need to insure you are a member of the correct group and the group has the proper permissions.

Good luck
