We perfomed a file restore yesterday on a TSM VE client VM.

We have TSM VE 7.1 on Windows 2008 R2. Our TSM Server (6.3.1) is on AIX 7.1. The VM resides on an ESX 4.1 host. Our vCenter is 5.5 as are some of our newer ESXi hosts.

All our TSM VE data resides on tape except for the VMCTRL files.

We have 3 data mover nodes for the production clusters.

We logged into data mover node A to start the restore process with Data Protection for VMware Recovery Agent. I logged into the TSM server to look at the activity log.

It appears the restore was actually performed by a different data mover node B. The activty log shows this

ANR1639I Attributes changed for node A: TCP Name from A to B, TCP Address
from nodeA_IP to NodeB_IP GUID from whatever to whatever .

This morning the same entry in the activity log but the nodes were reversed.

A couple questions:

First is this entry normal? This is the first restore we've done with TSM VE.

Secondly, the restore was really long. I did some searching and apparently this is normal from tape. We are contemplating putting our on-site primary pool on disk instead of tape to help with restores and implement de-duplication. Has anyone done this? Any gotcha's?

Thanks much,
