Hi,

I am restoring TSM DB after the hard drives replacement.

TSM Version - 5.4
Platform - Windows 2003
Library - SCSI (Overland Neo 2000)

Unfortunately, we did not have copies of important files (volhist, devconfig, dsmserv.opt, etc.,)

I followed the procedure of Point in Time restore without volhist file

I defined the devclass, library, drive and path as it was before hdd crash, and checked in volumes and then took a backup which is in the server instance devconf.out

After that I restored DB using dsmserv restore db devclass=library_class volumenames=stg1t008, it seemed to have completed successfully. Please see below

"C:\Program Files\Tivoli\TSM\server>dsmserv restore db volumenames=stg1t008 devclass=library_class commit=no
ANR0900I Processing options file c:\program files\tivoli\tsm\server1\dsmserv.o-

However, the TSM server services (TSM Server1) wouldn't start.

It gives the below error message,

"C:\Program Files\Tivoli\TSM\server>cd tsmdiag

I checked the dsmserv.opt, it seems fine but the service wouldn't start.

Please advise how we could get the service to start.

Thanks and regards,
Faizan

I see you are using windows but still, can you start the tsm server from command line and watch what output it gives?
Here we can see restoration and start of admin client but not the server itself. If it fails to start I believe it will print out the reason of failure...

Hi,

if you used "commint=no", then TSM awaits another part of DB restore - if your DB backup is on single volume, use "commit=yes"

Hi Harry,

That was it, was using commit=no, DB backup was on single volume, it's all good now after using commit=yes.

Many thanks for your valuable support.
