Hi Guys,

We have installed TSM operations center 6.4.1 for monitoring. We are having 5 tsm instances.

Do i need to have TSM monitoring and reporting(v 6.3) for monitoring TSM servers ?
what are all the pros and cons on these two product? which one is better?

Please advise on the selecting product for tsm monitoring and reporting.

Thanks in advance.

You don't need either, you could do everything from the command line. However, both are very nice to have. Each have their own purpose, so it's not a matter of choosing one or the other. It's a matter of using them or not.

Reporting and Monitoring, as the name implies, permits you to do reports and monitor the TSM Server. The reporting gives you both status and trending reports over period of time. You can also monitor current activity. More info here: https://ibm.biz/BdFXCC

The Operation Center does not do reports, it gives you a snapshot of what's happening right now, with very little history, a day back or so. If you move to 7.1 of the Operation Center, you also have the ability to do some administrative tasks as well, but it's not yet a full blown replacement for the administration center. Hallo shaaha85,

1.) TSM reporting and monitoring:

IBM Tivoli Monitoring (ITM), TSM Monitoring Agent and TCR (Tivoli Common Reporting) with BIRT or Cognos runtime reports is powerful, but you have to invest some time to understand and customize the whole package (i installed and teached this topic for several years now)

But, with TSM 7.1 the package ist not delivered any more as it was done with the previous TSM versions.

2.) IBM OC - Operations Center

It looks nice and will the the future for IBMs GUI TSM administration. But as Marclant indicates: the current funtionality is very (very) limited. The "old" IBM TIP (Tivoli Integrated Portal) with its Admin Center Web Application
is currenly "usable" but will not be supported for future TSM versions.

And .. NO Reporting..

And in my opinion, the OC will need at least two more years until it has all the capabilities what the TIP/Admin Center has today (after more than 6 years of development).

Hallo shaaha85

the ITM,TCR/Cognos(Birt)(on embedded Websphere Application Server) Package should be installed on a different system, because the ITM used it's own DB2 database for historical data collection (Tivoli Data Warehouse)

The OC is not that much of a performance problem.
